Abstracting the Essence
Tangentz Performance Group Butoh Workshop Series
Sundays, 3-5PM
Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, Kenshikan Dojo, 2454 South Beretania St., Honolulu, Hawaii
Cost: $30.00 per month (four weeks), $15.00 per session

This workshop is open to all and no background in dance is necessary. It will begin with warm-ups to increase flexibility and build strength. Using imagery exercises you will learn to activate your senses and become more aware of your individual movements, and learn to develop your own unique voice through dance.

Lori Ohtani: originally trained as a visual artist, she received her BFA in painting and sculpture from the U. of H. Manoa. She began dancing this art form in 1989 during her senior year in college and acted as assistant director/principal dancer for Iona Pear Dance Theatre before leaving to form Tangentz in 1994. She has studied with Butoh Masters Koichi and Hiroko Tamano, Akira Kasai, Katsura Kan, Yumiko Yoshioka, Mitsutaka Ishii, Masahide Omori, and in Japan with butoh founder Kazuo Ono and his son Yoshito.
